May is Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month to celebrate the contributions of Asian and Pacific Islanders to American culture. It is also a time for governments, NGOs, schools, and other service providers to determine their support structures for Asian and Pacific Islanders Americans in their communities. As a Pacific Islander working and living in the Bay Area I can’t help but think about the health care for Pacific Islanders. Are there any culturally responsive healthcare for Melanesians, Micronesians, and Polynesians? Are there any organizations, health clinics, medical schools that have focused on the needs of our Pacific Islander community in the San Francisco, South Bay, and East Bay?
This is the start of a list of healthcare resources for our Pacific Islander community in California. It’s not exhaustive, but a start.
